Arnoldo Wald

Arnoldo Wald is a founding partner of Wald, Antunes, Vita e Blattner Advogados. He is recognized as one of Brazil's foremost jurists and one of the most frequently cited authors in decisions of the country's higher courts. A lawyer, professor, writer and legal scholar, over a 70-year career he has authored numerous books on civil, commercial, banking and administrative law and arbitration, as well as hundreds of articles published in Brazilian and international law journals. He founded and directed the Revista de Direito Bancário e do Mercado de Capitais and the Revista de Arbitragem e Mediação.

A pioneer in the introduction of arbitration in Brazil, he has held dozens of prominent positions, including Attorney General (Procurador-Geral de Justiça) of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Chairman of the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) and member of the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) for more than 20 years. He holds honorary doctorates from the University of Paris II (Panthéon-Assas) and the Brazilian Institute of Public Law (IDP).
